Introduction
Noam Chomsky, born
Avram Noam Chomsky, is widely considered to be the father of modern
linguistics. His theory of generative grammar has informed generations of
linguistic and cognitive researchers.
Nativism theory Chomsky indicates in his nativism theory that children are born with innate knowledge of the language rules (Berk, 2009). Chomsky suggests that “all human beings have an innate ability to acquire language” (Ahearn et al., 2002, p. 33). Moreover, the nativism theory proposed that children possess a Language Acquisition Device (LAD) (Escamilla & Grassi, 2000). LAD is a system that permits the child to “combine words into grammatically consistent” utterances (Berk, 2009, p. 359), understand the sentences the child hears, and begin to create language at very young age (Escamilla & Grassi, 2000) once he/ she has an adequate vocabulary (Berk, 2009).
