Many ideas and theories have emerged from early childhood education that discuss how children learn to talk and understand a language. In fact, many theories also address second language acquisition, including Noam Chomsky’s nativism theory and Stephen Krashen’s monitor theory (Ahearn et al., 2002).
Understanding and implementing language development theories is fundamental for English language teachers in Saudi Arabia because it will help the teachers to support children’s language development and promote their English language skills. In other words, if ESL teachers accommodate learners' needs and abilities appropriately, this will help the development not only of the students' language acquisition in both L1 and L2, but also help children to be more successful in their education (Copple & Bredekamp, 2009).
